Why a Weekend Workshop or YouTube Videos Don’t Make You an Iridologist

If you’ve learned iridology in a weekend workshop — you are not an iridologist.
If you’ve learned it from a book — you’re not an iridologist either.
If you’ve learned it from short video courses or YouTube — you’re still not an iridologist.

The Dangers of Unqualified Iridology Practitioners

As an IIPA-certified Level 3 iridology instructor, I fear for anyone who has had an iridology “reading” done by someone with at most 20 hours of training — and there are a lot of them out there.

Whether the training came from a weekend workshop, a pre-recorded course of just a few hours, YouTube videos, or a book, dangerous deficiencies exist. These practitioners may have passed simple online quizzes, but they lack proper mentoring, real-time evaluation, and skilled coaching. No one has corrected their mistakes or guided their development.

Why “Paint-by-Numbers” Iridology Is Harmful

These so-called iridologists confidently proclaim specific medical states — “you have parasites,” “your lymphatics are congested,” or “your pancreas is in trouble” — and then give generalized recommendations like parasite cleanses, eliminating all dairy, or cutting out refined sugar. Often this is done without even speaking with the client, based solely on smartphone photos of the irides.

Most of these weekend iris-gazers have never taken a proper course in anatomy and physiology. Their knowledge of nutrition and herbalism is rudimentary at best. They practice “paint-by-number” iridology, which sullies the reputation of the entire field, diminishes the extensive research and training required for professional practice, and makes it harder for iridology to be taken seriously by the wider health community.

The Growing Problem of AI Iridology Analysis

Equally concerning is the trend of people dropping eye photos into AI tools for analysis. Where does the AI get its information? From websites filled with outdated and disproved data. Unfortunately, some untrained “iridologists” now feed client photos through AI and claim authorship of the resulting reports.

Who Should Become a Professional Iridologist?

Here’s where you come in. We urgently need more medically trained professionals — RNs, post-graduate NDs, certified nutrition coaches, and well-trained herbalists — to learn constitutional iridology properly and get certified by the International Iridology Practitioners Association (IIPA).

When used correctly, constitutional iridology is a powerful guiding tool — not a diagnostic tool — that can deeply enhance your practice.
